Portsmouth Hosts the Snowball Fight Heard ‘Round The World

On January 28th, before Winter Storm Juno – the first of what has become a long season of blizzards – a few Portsmouth residents decided to have a little fun. They posted a Facebook event calling for a snowball fight in Market Square after the snow fell.

The next day, dozens of residents descended on the town center to have an epic snow battle. Your correspondent caught the second half, and it was truly an event to remember. Then, all the revelers went to bars like Ri Ra, where they drank the Guinness tap run dry for the first time in the bar’s history.

It was one of those moments where I just appreciate living in a little city like this. No other place with 20K residents is having this much fun!

Apparently, the world was impressed with our winter spirit too. The story was covered by ABC News, The Weather Channel, the Boston Globe, New Hampshire’s WMUR, and in a local photo essay by the Portsmouth Herald.
